Over the years the Strand has undergone many physical and cultural changes, as detailed under the pictures section. Today we are closer to reaping the benefits of all of the efforts of many, to rescue, restore and reopen this magnificent theatre.

It is a treasure for our community.

We will provide a convincing alternative to today's video world by exposing children and adults to the exciting reality of diverse live entertainment. Exposing young and older people to the highest quality artistic experience is our goal.

Currently, we are working very hard as an organization to be a part of downtowns revitalization and to help bring about positive change. We see great possibilities with The Strand serving as the hub of an entertainment district - reaching out to entire North Country. We feel this would offer our communities a unique and compelling tool in the economic development arena and would reinforce the concept of this area as a destination not only for tourists but also for companies seeking a new home.

It Takes a Community to Raise a Theatre

Restoring The Strand has been a community effort and there will be something for everyone at The Strand! People who have nostalgic memories of The Strand and people who had never been to The Strand will all find great entertainment here! From musicals to classic films to kid films to concerts and educational opportunities, the theatre will truly be the cultural center for The North Country. Though the theatre has been saved and is being restored The Strand still needs the community’s support to match the $600,000 in state and federal grants (we have been awarded) which will include the roof, stage, fire escapes, heating and air conditioning and new electrical service. I believe we can then start presenting at this point to generate some income until we can afford the final decorative touches and professional equipment that is needed to complete the project.
